It’s important to teach children that whenever they are in a zone other than green, it is a red flag that they need to recollect themselves and refocus. It’s okay to not always be in green, we are only human! Therefore, there are strategies to help calm the mind and heart to immediately bring the mind back to focus and go on with our day with a new sense of regained energy and control.
Mindful Masters Karen Mascari and Mariel Wilk have taught me the importance of a “mindful sit.” A mindful sit is a strategy to bring peace to the mind and heart. I like to think of it as a deep clean for the soul! Subscribe to “Mindfulness with Mariel” and see how she models how to go about a relaxing and effective sit as well as other strategies to practice mindfulness. Once the student/child is comfortable with a sit they will be able to perform one on their own during their green routine.
This Fridge Brag goes to the book “How to Tame my Anxiety Monster” by Melanie Hawkins. Everyone has an anxiety monster that follows them. By practicing mindful strategies it can become easy to not let the anxiety monster get in the way of doing the things we enjoy. The book also includes great conversation starters for your children/students and a worksheet. Available on Amazon! Click on the fridge to purchase.
