I've always thought of style as an informed expression of your inner self. To choose something "just because you like"it is not enough. You need to understand the choices you make - how they fit it with and enhance your life. Each day offers a whole series of choices that help define you as an individual. Some questions are as basic as whether to put your hair up in a messy bun or wear it down, or to apply clear or red polish to your nails. Ideally , the decisions you make should be based on who you are, how you perceive yourself, and how you want others to see you. It's a combination of these little moment - by- moment , day -by-day choices that creates a total image.
To make the wisest decisions , you need to study what's out there. Keep abreast of trends shown in fashion media and adopt the ones that "fit" your personality and body. When you are aware of all the available options ( and that means opening yourself up to possibilities you might not consider initially ) then you are making informed selections. This doesn't rule out looking to the past for inspiration - perhaps a book on Chanel , a 1920s movie , or an Impressionist painting. Once inspired you must develop an awareness of how those resources can be applied to your life in order to complete the cycle and bring the ideas to the present.
For most of us, finding a personal style is not something that's done casually. I've been working at it my whole life. And since never- ending change is a fact of life , your style- like mine- will have to undergo similar adaptions to stay strong and current. You need to be aware of the changes in your life - whether occupational , emotional, or physical. It's also important to figure out how each change affects you.
Style can't flourish when you limit your own vision of yourself. Life moves on and you move on.
The more you know , the more you can appreciate and respond to your style. When someone asks you why you chose something the answer should be immediate . It connects with something deep inside you. The process of knowing what's right becomes second nature to you.
And that's the end result of style: It gives you pleasure , it helps you express yourself , and makes you feel good about who you are.
Style extends far beyond the clothes you wear. It is also the way you choose to furnish your home, entertain, and display the little things that you collect.
Ultimately , style is a quality that grows out of a lifetime of experiences, options, inspirations. Look inward and you'll find your style.
It's never too late to evaluate choices and make adaptions so that you are sure they fit in with your vision of yourself.
It's never too late to give yourself the pleasure of having unity among your lifestyle choices - a harmony that's subtle, yet rich in diversity.
Thanks for allowing me to share my thoughts. Hope you found them inspiring.
