Call Me Maybe? Calling Vs. Texting & Styling A Vintage Dress In Today’s Modern World

Hi Everybody!

Hope you are having a beautiful weekend! Last weekend I wore this dress to a family event and the little old-fashioned phones all over it got me thinking and wondering about whether or not my kindergarten students would recognize the telephones if I wore it to school. Which led me to to thinking about how times have changed and the whole calling/texting issue. Does anyone call anyone anymore?

I know a lot of people will have a gazillion different reasons to prove why texting is better. And I do admit there are times when texting is the perfect way to communicate. Maybe you want to share a photo you just took or maybe you or the other person is in a place where talking on the phone is not possible. Also texting is great when working out logistics or  if you want someone to know you are running late. I also think it’s appropriate to text to pay someone a light compliment.

Now, here’s a whole bunch of reasons why I think making a call could be a better choice.

1. Once is enough. You can get everything you want from a single correspondence. No need to wait for a reply, fix auto-correct and continue to send/receive tiny bits of information or parts of a story.

2. You can actually hear someone’s tone. It’s not fun to guess. Texting can be a guessing game of Is he/she mad at me? What did they mean by that punctuation? Not a fun game at  all.

3, Respect. A phone call shows that someone is dedicating their time and attention to the conversation and person.

4. Sometimes emojis don’t say it all.

5. Our communication skills are limited enough these days. Technology these days has made it so easy to do so many things without any verbal conversation or being face-to-face with anyone.

6. Texting long thoughts and conversations is exhausting. Really it would take two minutes to explain yourself rather than sending and receiving essays that take much longer for both parties to read, understand and deal with.

7.  Text messages can be so calculated. Is it even a conversation when the other person has spent so much time thinking about and composing their response? Of course it’s not always wise to respond when the first thing that comes to your mind. Still, a genuine response is much more appreciated that a crafted message.

8.  It’s honestly nice just to hear someone’s voice. I’d rather hear someone actually laugh than see hahaha. Or lol.

9. Text-messaging is just not personal. Calling is genuine, not copied and pasted.

10. Calling has a definite end. A hello, a conversation and a good-bye. None of the unknown.

Yes, I text. And I’m not saying I don’t believe it should ever be done or judging people that choose to always text and never call. I’m not at all. I’m just sharing some thoughts on the subject and I’m interested in how you feel. Let me know and feel free to connect with me by leaving a comment, email or you can even call me;)

Thank you so much for your time and attention! It is truly appreciated and I hope you found this post worthwhile.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend!

Yours truly,

Jennifer

xoxo
