Did you ever wonder if you were doing the best you could for your skin? I really wanted to take the guesswork out of caring for my skin and I found a great way to find out so much information quickly, effectively and without ever stepping into a doctor's office. Skeptical? Let me explain. I decided to try Home DNA Skincare which is a scientifically-based DNA test that identifies your skin's genetic potential in 7 key areas: Collegan Quality, Skin Elasticity, Fine Lines and Wrinkles, Sun Protection, Pigmentation, Skin Antioxidants, and Skin Sensitivity.
All I had to do was use the enclosed swabs to swipe the inside of my cheek, mail the swabs to the lab in the included envelope and wait for my results. It really is as simple as it sounds. It took a few minutes to open the package, use the swabs and I mailed it the next day. That was three weeks ago. When I received the email telling me that my results were in I was excited but a little nervous. I was first of all hoping I would be able to understand it all and it wouldn't take hours to decipher and second I was hoping I didn't have some sort of genetically predetermined condition that would cause me to age horribly.
Luckily the results from Home DNA were super easy to decipher and I was happy with the results. My main reason for taking this test was to gain knowledge about myself so I wouldn't waste time and money on products I don't need or that could actually do more harm than good. I was given an overall score of "optimal" which is definitely better than "average" or "non-ideal" but the helpful part of the results was in the breakdown of the 7 catagories.
I not only received detailed information about my skin's potential in all 7 areas from Home DNA I was also given recommendations for the best topical ingredients, supplemental ingredients and professional treatments. This is what you can expect to see. A breakdown of each of the seven catagories, my gene profile summary and then a very detailed page for each. As you can see, although I was given a "Optimal" rating there are areas I am more at risk for, such as Collagen Fiber Formation, so I know I will need extra support for that. At the bottom of each page (catagory) there are the recommendations, which I was really happy to see.
What do you think? Would you be willing to take a simple over the counter test like this one from Home DNA to find out all this information about yourself so you can make more informed choices about how you care for your skin? Have you tried anything at all like this? I would love to hear about your experiences and about the ways you have found the best products for your skin.
This is definitely one of my favorite bags I found this year. It is the Turn Lock Mini Backpack from Hieleven. I first blogged about it here and you can find it here.
Thank you so much for your time and attention. I'm glad you had the chance to visit my blog today and hear about my experience with Home DNA Skincare and also see a few of my favorite items in my wardrobe.
