The Ease of a T-Shirt in a Very (Un)Expensive Dress: Affordable Luxury from Target
”Luxury is the ease of a T-shirt in a very expensive dress."
―Karl Lagerfeld
This might have been the perfect quote to build this blog post around, except this isn’t a very expensive dress. In fact, my leopard print satin slip dress can be found here, on this link, and it’s an extremely affordable garment. Yes, it’s from Target, the A New Day collection to be specific, and it might even be on sale by the time you read this.
As soon as I saw it I knew it was a steal, because the shape, leopard print, and silky fabric are all timeless staples woven together into one perfect dress that would never look wrong. Never? Yes, never.
This simple yet elegant piece has so many possibilities and could be effortlessly styled for any occasion. I’m wearing it here with black strappy heels and a semi-precious orbital dalmation jasper disc pendant necklace from the Universal Thread collection at Target. And that’s how I wore it recently when I spent the day in Mystic with my husband for a child-free anniversary lunch.
It could be made more professional with a well tailored blazer, classic pumps, and a simple short pearl statement necklace. I could even see it dressed down with a black (or even burgundy) t-shirt underneath and flat gold sandals for a day of shopping with friends. Or add leggings, a belt. and a denim jacket and it becomes a cute type of cami-layer with that subtle touch of leopard turning an ordinary outfit into an extraordinarily fun look.
When inevitably the weather turns cooler, I will add a fuzzy coral pullover sweater and short black boots. Or maybe a brown fitted t-shirt underneath, a long black belted duster sweater over it, a felt hat, and taupe suede booties.
Even in the coldest of the cold weather, I can picture wearing this slip dress if I were to add a cable knit ivory sweater, a plaid blanket scarf with rich jewel tones, warm tights, and over the knee burgundy boots.
What do you think? How would you style it? Do have have any pieces in your wardrobe that are affordable and easy to wear, yet feel luxurious? Do you love them so much you try to restyle them over and over so you can wear them again and again in different ways?
Thank you so much for visiting the blog today. I hope you found this post worthwhile. I truly appreciate your time and attention.
