By No Means a Waste of Time: A Creamsicle on a Summer Day
"Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass on a summer day listening to the murmur of water or watching the clouds float across the sky, is hardly a waste of time."
—John Lubbock
This week, on Friday, August 14th, it will be National Creamsicle Day. Not a big deal? Why not? To be honest with you, I wanted to blog about this Target sundress about a month ago and because the colors remind me of my favorite summertime treat (creamsicle flavored ANYTHING) I was going to include my favorite creamsicle recipes.
Then a quick google search for a quote with the word creamsicle in it ( no luck) brought me to the awesome information that there is a National Creamsicle Day! So I waited, and here I am now, blogging about the dress and also creamsicle favorites just in time for the big day!
After all, sometimes we have to just stop and rest, like the above quote by John Lubbock reminds us, and not think of it as a waste of time. So go ahead, relax, listen to the murmur of water or watch the clouds floating by, and enjoy a nostalgic taste of the season. And what’s better than a creamsicle for that?
The dictionary refers to a creamsicle as a flavored popsicle with an ice-cream core or any of various sweet and creamy mixed drinks. For me, a true creamsicle has to be a vanilla and orange flavored concoction. Some places actually call them dreamsicles, and we hear that reference here in Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit’s song.
Of course, you can buy a box in any supermarket, but nowadays they come in a variety pack, often including wild berry and cherry flavors. Why not make your own, keeping all of them full of orange and vanilla deliciousness, and then, why not try a completely new version with the same flavors but a whole new vibe?

Speaking of the refreshing creamsicle, which has its own national holiday, you can find its nostalgic scent in The Honest Company’s Everyday Gentle Sweet Orange Vanilla Bubble Bath, shampoo, and hand and body lotion. I have been a fan of this wellness company, founded by Jessica Alba, since they first began creating products families could count on to be safe and effective. Read all about The Honest Standard here.
And now a few words about the dress that inspired my creamsicle google search. It’s called the Women’s Floral Print Sleeveless Tiered Swing Dress and the color is actually referred to as orange. It’s made from a lightweight fabric with a flowy tiered silhouette. The tiered design gets extra definition from pretty ruffle detailing that creates flattering cinching throughout. I love the lace trim that graces the V-cut cups, and the cute little self-tie strap in back.
My necklace is referred to as the Worn Gold and Copper Ox Geometric Enamel Pendant Necklace and is available both online and in-store at Target. It’s the perfect finishing touch for this look and I’ve worn it with so many other casual and dressier outfits since I found it a few weeks ago. I found these sandals at Target last summer and they are still available here, on this link.
It’s been fun to take a break from the seriousness and all the worries of this summer and appreciate the simple pleasures of the season, such as a nostalgic treat and an affordable new fun dress.
