Sunshine, Freedom, and a Little Bit of Bohemian Chic: The Limited Edition Collection at Target
”Just living is not enough, ” said the butterfly, ”one must have sunshine, freedom, and a little flower.”
Hans Christian Anderson
The caterpillar is limited to where it goes in life. It can crawl across the ground or under a leaf. Then it is boxed inside a dark cocoon. To live, it must get out of that box and changes must occur. When it finally emerges as a winged butterfly, fluttering in the sunshine with the freedom to go elsewhere, it might land upon the beauty of a little flower. That is when it is truly and happily living.
We are sometimes like caterpillars. We limit ourselves to a simple, easy existence. We can even get ourselves boxed into a dark place we don't necessarily enjoy. We might not be sure we have what it takes to allow the growth and change we need in our lives to take place so we can get out of that ’box.’
We have all made mistakes throughout our lives that we are not proud of, and maybe we wish we could somehow go back in time and do certain things differently. However, the reality of it all is that these are the things we grow from, and these are the experiences that help us grow in both our personal and professional lives
Do we always have to make mistakes to grow and change? I really don’t think so. I believe we can make the decision to be pro-active in our quest for growth and change by doing simple things on a daily basis.
What if we…
Complimented ourselves?
Refrained from making excuses?
Were honest and direct?
Listened to others?
Practiced kindness?
Forgave others?
Let go of resentment?
Made sure our words and actions were reflective of our true selves?
Above all, it is the belief in ourselves that we can learn, grow, and change in positive ways that will allow us to truly live the lives we were meant to live. If we decide we want to get out of that “dark place,’ or ‘box,’ we can. I write so much about the power of positive thinking because, although the idea that your mind can change the world might seem too good to be true to some people, if you have optimism, you will know it is not only possible but actually very probable. You will be happier and will make a more positive difference in everyone around you simply by the way you look at the world around you.
Optimistic people look for the good in every problem or difficulty. They see the important lessons in every setback or reversal. Rather than getting upset and blaming others for what as happened, they take control over their emotions by saying, “What can I learn from this experience?”
Some people find motivation from inspirational quotes when they are trying to induce positive thoughts and maintain their optimistic attitude. It’s not always easy to be cheerful when things are not going according to plan, but looking on the bright side is most important when things go wrong. When we encounter unexpected setbacks and difficulties we can show ourselves, and the world around us, what kind of attitude we really have.
Those of you who have followed me either on Instagram, Twitter, or here on the blog, know that I make style choices that reflect my positive nature and help me express my optimistic side. I have pink hair because I love how it makes people smile. It’s a happy color, much like this yellow polka-dot statement-making dress I found at Target.
This is certainly not a dress you see every day, either at Target or really anywhere. It’s obviously from their limited-edition dress collection and from designer Lisa Marie Fernandez. Her signature bohemian-chic style is refreshing in its effortlessly glamourous versatility. This dress would be a show stopper at the beach, a backyard barbecue, or in the city for an evening out on a hot summer night. I added bright orange sandals, colorful accessories, and a jean jacket to dress it down, and then tried black strappy sandals and a fun clutch for a different look, but it’s the dress that takes center stage in each ensemble.
Another great thing about not just this dress, but all of the designs from the Lisa Marie Fernandez collection,is the price range! Target, as always, keeps everything reasonable and affordable for all.
What do you do to maintain a positive attitude and remain optimistic even when things are not going your way? Do you believe in the power of positivity, and do you ever feel like your style choices make a difference in your overall mindset? I would love to hear your thoughts.
